Description:
In astrophysics we use our knowledge from the whole spectrum of physics - from classical mechanics to describe the motion of celestial bodies to the latest theories of elementary particles and forces to describe the beginnings of the university. This course is designed to give the student a general quantitative understanding of the subject. On completion of this course the student will be able to follow recent developments in the field.

Topics covered include: stellar structure and evolution, collapsed objects, galaxies and cosmology.

Assessment is by assignments, literature project and final
examination.

Prerequisites: M211 Quantum Theory. M314 Nuclear and Particle Physics and M123 Astronomy are strongly recommended.
